So I'm buying a paint sprayer to redo some trim pieces and possibly my rims. "They're hyper-black" No, they're gun metal you assholes. Fix that. Anyways, I don't have a garage or bay or yard for that matter. Apartment living has set me with a patio. So I'm going to build a small painting "booth" with some plastic wrap. That being said you could assume I don't have an air compressor.
So I'm looking at this:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The ride is a greenish grayish blue with black trim. I have these:
But think I want to do a paint scheme such as these: (gloss black, plastidip purple lip)
*bonus points to anyone that wants to Photoshop the tsw's to the above color scheme.

That style of paint gun is not meant for automotive paint. It's meant for much thicker household paint. It isn't meant to lay super smooth coats like you would want for a decent automotive paint job. I suspect you would have worse runs than if you only ate at taco bell and chipotle for a week straight.

What AMGtech said. Use the proper tool for the job, or don't bother.

I would recommend a trip too your local autoparts store and look at their aerosol paint for auto use. As long as you take your time doing the prep it can come out looking good.

Definitely. There is nothing wrong with rattle cans as long as you put the same care and effort into using them as you would with an HVLP gun for instance.

Just something I threw together:
To spray paint on car parts, use the proper sprayer. My cheap Kawasaki Compressor came with one, never used it.

thanks for that, I always assumed the rattlecan route *showed* and was obvious. I'll go that route then, and thanks for saving me a bunch of money

bonus points for the graphic explanation. Coincidentally I made a leaky chipotle reference on here early today.

Good luck getting that candy coat anodized sort of look with the purple. SEM brand rattle cans are quite excellent BTW. I also suggest checking out some how-to's beforehand if you haven't done much/any paint work.

I painted rimz with rattle cans and they turned out great and have lasted pretty good. Do your prep work if you get sick of sanding and cleaning take a break dont give up and just think its good enough and try to paint it will come out crap.

My plan is to first repair the rust on my lower inner rear door near the wheel well. That's not a place a lot of people see, so if I mess it up on my first go round it won't be the end of the world. Then hopefully from there i can move to the chips on the lower front quarter panels.
